DRAFT & STITCH

The Robing Room provides Draft & Stitch Training with fully Qualified Experienced Tutors at The Robing Room Studio, The Glassworks, Folkestone, Kent, CT20 1JG England

At the start

Students will be required to acknowledge the content of these ‘Terms and Conditions’ upon enrolment when enrolling with us and this will be taken as evidence of their acceptance. If a student wishes to enrol by phone or letter the assumption is that they have previously read and understood and agreed to the current Terms and Conditions. All Terms and Conditions may have additions, deletions and alterations made in the future and the definitive current version will be the one posted on our website. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for details concerning your data Protection.

Candidates registering with Draft & Stitch, on receipt of enrolment and registration fees Registration is valid for 1 year Stages 1 and 2, 2 years stages 3 and 4, 1 year for the Award and they may be extended beyond that, if needed, to complete the course up to the maximum course life which is supplied within the individual course details. Any extension to these terms may incur a further fee.

Occasional use and access to a computer are now requirements of the courses, as is use of an online file transfer service. It is the student’s own responsibility to ensure they have made digital copies of all work sent in to Draft & Stitch and Draft & Stitch cannot be held responsible for any hardware or software failure which results in loss of evidence of student work. Other machinery and materials may be required, such as a sewing machine, which is listed in the course requirements on our site and must be supplied by the student, or the use of such in the studio.

Students may choose to send in presentations of their work via a CD/memory stick or through file transfer service.

All the information and advice held on our website, printed and course material is given in good faith and believed to be true.

Some general health and safety guidelines have been included with course materials, but as Draft & Stitch cannot oversee a distance student’s working environment, individuals are expected to take responsibility for their own actions and work in a healthy and safe way, during their time in the studio and working from home. No responsibility can be accepted for any accident or injury sustained during the courses offered and delivered by Draft & Stitch.

Timing

Stage 1

This is for total beginners and would require a one or 2 days in the classroom learning about the equipment required for the courses and Health & Safety issues. Any questions regarding courses can be answered at this time. The cost of this course is £65 per day and can be on a one to one basis.

Level 1 Award

Timescale & Fees. Estimated completion time for the course is 120 hours, 20 days inclusive, although this can vary considerably between individuals please contact info@draftandstitch.therobingroom.co.uk for confirmed fees for either Certified by Courses or non Certified fees.

There is an enrolment fee which is payable at the start of the course and the course life is 1 year (it is usual to take around 6-8 weeks to complete a module). It is up to the individual student how quickly they wish to return work to their tutor for assessment and it is possible, within the overall course timeframe, to speed up or slow down, as required. A six-month contingency is available, if needed, to cover unforeseen issues such as illness, upon production of supporting documentation, which would therefore extend the course life to 18 months (1.5 years). The maximum for this extra contingency time is once during the course lifetime. The course is supplied within the Studio space at Folkestone and self-directed from home. Course materials and tutor assessments are delivered in the studio, verbally and digitally and work is submitted to your tutor via digital presentation. The timeframe is measured from initial registration date.

Level 1 Certificate

Level 2 Award

Timescale & Fees. Estimated completion time for the course is 80 hours14 Days at £600. There is an enrolment fee which is payable at the start of the course. It is up to the individual student how quickly they wish to return work to their tutor for assessment and it is possible, within the overall course timeframe, to speed up or slow down, as required. A six-month contingency is available, if needed, to cover unforeseen issues such as illness, upon production of supporting documentation, which would therefore extend the course life to 12 months. The maximum for this is twice during the course lifetime. The course is supplied within the Studio space in Folkestone and self-directed from home. Course materials and tutor assessments are delivered in the studio, verbally and digitally and work is submitted to your tutor via digital presentation. The timeframe is measured from initial registration date.

The information and activities are offered as a course, not as a set of independent modules and so progress to the next module is subject to satisfactory completion of the previous module. During the work on each module, students will be given written and verbal feedback and an Action Plan which must be returned to the tutor and will be forwarded with completed work to acknowledge that they have made any changes or additions required by their tutor.

Level 2 Certificate

Level 2 Diploma

Making payments

Payments can be made by Debit/Credit Card via paypal, by Bank Transfer or by Cash. Students may pay in advance for the complete course and registration or may prefer to pay in 2 payments for Stage 2 and 4 payments for Stage 3 and 4.

For the Award which is a project of the student’s choice with full tutor support a payment plan will be put in place with requirements. The first payment to include registration with Draft & Stitch in addition to the course fees. Current details of costing are available on the website.

Any required postage charges are at the cost of the student and are subject to change – see current information for details – and are not negotiable. Draft & Stitch ensure returned work for a value of up to £150.00, unless a request is made for a higher amount, and the cost of this is included in the postage fees. Fees for postage abroad vary and this will be on an individual basis. Postage payments must be sent with any module to be returned, or a card payment processed.

Current prices may be subject to change at the discretion of Draft & Stitch but will be held for individuals at the rate agreed at the time of enrolment for a period of 3 years – after this the current module prices will apply. Once enrolment and registration has taken place no fees are refundable – it is particularly important that students wishing to obtain a greater discount by paying for the whole course at once note this as being the case.

What you can expect

Formal assessment is supplied throughout the course in the form of written and verbal feedback at the end of each completed module, detailing any alterations or additions required, as well as informal feedback as and when required. Students have the opportunity of altering or adding to their work throughout the course and their tutor will tell them when this is required to meet the course criteria.

In the event that a phone contact is requested a mutually convenient time is agreed and the student is then required to give advance details of the matter they wish to discuss so that the tutor can bring themselves up to date with the student’s work and records prior to the conversation taking place. Post-conversation the tutor will forward a brief email detailing the main content of the conversation and any action that must be taken by either side. If the student has anything to add or believes something is incorrect, they need to respond to that email within 10 days of receipt.

Draft & Stitch tutors reserve the right to amend the information and requirements of the course as necessary to keep it current and creative. This means that no more than 3 modules are dispatched at once, even to students who have paid in full at the start of their course in case changes need to be made.

The course tutor will normally respond to students’ enquiries and assessment material within as short a time as possible but it should be noted that on occasion there might be a delay of no more than 3 weeks to allow for holidays and other teaching commitments. Draft & Stitch training courses reserves the right to involve extra tutors and assessors as necessary to meet the demand for specialist courses and to provide cover for periods of absence or illness so that students are able to continue with their studies without disruption.

Digital assessment facility or online study is available to students on condition that, if necessary, we may also need to ask for pieces to be returned to us if details are unclear.

Complaints

If a student believes they have reason for complaint about the courses and delivery made by Draft & Stitch tutors, administrators, or assessment or work, then they need to contact the office in the first instance and verbally outline what the issue is to allow for a discussion to take place which would generally resolve the matter. If, however, they still subsequently feel the issue has not been addressed to their satisfaction, there is a formal, written complaints process which requires the issue being documented by the student and forwarded to Draft & Stitch by letter and a formal response will be made by Draft & Stitch within three weeks of receipt. If the matter is still not resolved, then the complaint will be discussed with UK Register of Learning Providers.

What we expect

All course content is the intellectual property of The Robing Room and Draft & Stitch and is not to be copied or distributed in any form without prior consent being obtained from Draft & Stitch Course Leader.

Students undertake to supply only their own work for assessment and not that of any other party. Any student who supplies the work of another will have their tuition cancelled and no fees returned, along with the withdrawal of any possible certificates already obtained.

All communications will be conducted in a courteous and polite manner.

Draft & Stitch reserves the right to reproduce images of students’ work for use on their website (wwwdraftandstitch.co.uk and others), course material and in other promotional material, social media and as part of articles done by third parties as well as for verification use.

Students will not be identified on the website or promotional material to preserve confidentiality unless permission is requested and granted.

Completion

Any changes made to the course, course content, deadlines, registration etc. – changes do sometimes occur, and we are bound to implement them for all students. We cannot be held responsible for any extra time or inconvenience on behalf of students which may be held attributable to this.

The Certificate is only awarded on satisfactory completion of the entire course and is subject to Internal and External Verification to maintain the standards required.

Once completion of the course has been agreed with a tutor the candidate will be required to present all work in a digital presentation/s for Internal Verification/External Verification. This process can take up to 8 weeks to complete. Sometimes an IV/EV may request that work be sent in for them to see part way through the student’s course. Again this is subject to requirements and has to be adhered to by the student. Postage in this instance is the responsibility of the student
